PPP/C has mandate to rule on behalf of the Guyanese people
Freddie Kissoon in his Kaieteur News column of September 17 asserts:”…UG is an African dominated institution both in staff and students. Yet, the most Machiavellian attacks and conspiracies have been hatched against the University by the PPP Government with no response from African Guyanese. In the fifteen years that the PPP has abused its power, there has only been one strike at UG and not by the lecturers. Tell me, Mr. Dev since I don’t have the answer; why aren’t the PNC and African Guyanese at UG fighting back? “The PPP/C Government has a mandate from the people to rule on their behalf.
Some African Guyanese are fighting. But African Guyanese will find it hard to convince the international community that the government does not have legitimacy.
Now you understand why it was important for (1) the government to be conveyed as acting in cahoots with drug dealers, (2) acting in cahoots with the Phantom Squad (incidentally, how were the Phantom Squad able to “find” their targets if they never had training in tracking people? (3) why is it important for the government to be conveyed as restricting press freedom (would Stabroek News acted in the same way if a big company stopped advertising with them?)
Freddie tries to make it sound as if the government is actually trying to impose its will on the masses. What he lacks is not words, but the ability to look at a situation from all angles and understand who is doing what.
