Georgetown, GINA, January 19

Secretary to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Neermal Rekha disclosed that the majority of Government ministries, departments and agencies have received clearance to proceed with payments of January salaries.
The stipulated date for payment of January salaries is January 15. However delays occurred due to a lack of implementation of the new computerised system, – the Integrated Financial Management and Accounting System (IFMAS), by Government entities.
The majority of Government entities have since implemented the IFMAS programme, which is part of Government’s drive to improve financial transparency and accountability.
In a continued effort to ensure that the system is implemented with minimal disruptions, the Ministry plans to hold a follow-up meeting with accounting officers, Permanent Secretaries or their representatives on Wednesday.
The new system will greatly reduce the use of cash, reduce processing time, enhance advance planning and increase public officers accountability for transactions, .
IFMAS is part of Guyana’s economic management programme (GEMP) – Phase III.
