The judges’ decision is final

The judging criteria are set for the Mashramani Adult Calypso competitions and the judges’ decision is final.
Calypsonians will be judged in three categories, Lyrics 30 points; melody 30 points; rendition 30 points and presentation; 10 points. Under Lyrics, the judges will be looking for topic, composition and construction.
In Melody, they will look for originality, construction and compatibility, while for rendition and presentation, they will pay special attention to diction, intonation, attire and showmanship.
Each calypso must have at least four verses and a chorus and should not be slanderous, libellous or vulgar.
A panel of six judges, including a chief judge, will select the qualifiers.
Eighteen calypsonians will be competing in the Semi-final competition set for the National Park on Friday. Nine will be selected from this lot to participate in the final competition in Bartica with the reigning monarch Vivian ‘VJ’ Jordan on February 20.
The participants for tomorrow night’s show are Eddie A’ Lord Canary, Young Bill Rogers, Black Hat, Omai Gregory, Mighty Voter, Sweet Moniques, Ras Marcus, Calypso Stella, King Solo, Singing Coo Coo, Mighty Exciter, Tempest, Mighty Hunter, Winfield James, Bright Colours, Mighty Rebel and Professor Clem.
