Two Immigration Officers identified to observe procedures at Barbados Airport
Georgetown, GINA, February 09, 2004
Two Immigration Officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) will visit Barbados to observe the procedures at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Senior Superintendent Krishna Lakeraj, and Officer-in- Charge of Immigration - Cheddi Jagan International Airport Inspector Keith Knights are the officers who will be leaving Guyana on February 16.
On the following day, the two Officers will be present at the Grantley Adams Airport, where an early morning flight is scheduled to arrive in Barbados from Guyana.
Thereafter, discussions would follow with officials at Immigration Headquarters in Barbados for the remainder of the day.
The visit by the two local Immigration Officers comes in light of concerns raised by Guyanese travelling to Barbados and complaints of persons being harassed at the Grantley Adams Airport.
The Government of Guyana through the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados were engaged in talks to rectify the situation and Barbados extended an invitation for two senior immigration officers to witness the process at Grantley Adams Airport.
Discussions were also held to decide how the decision will be implemented, the terms and duration of the visit, and to determine how the visit can yield favourable results.
