Teachers coached on new Physical Education syllabus

The Ministry of Education is poised to begin Physical Education in schools.
Physical Education becomes examinable through the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) next year.
The Ministry held workshops this week targeting Physical Education teachers, sports organizers, coaches and stakeholders from the Cyril Potter College of Education. .
The workshop seeks to provide a clear understanding of the rationale, objectives and content of the new Physical Education and Sports syllabus.
It is envisioned that participants will be better equipped to monitor and mark projects and select resource material for the successful implementation of the syllabus.
Participants received on the job training with students from Queen’s College.
Feature speaker at the workshop, President of the Amateur Athletics Association, Claude Blackmore said for too long physical education was viewed as a learning barrier to high scholastic achievement.
Blackmore made mention of the career options available to those willing to pursue jobs in Physical education and sports.
Facilitators at the workshop included Dr. Leyland Thompson, Mark Mungal, CXC Panelist (Trinidad), Lincoln Dundas CXC Panelist (Guyana).
A National Committee for the Promotion of Physical Education in schools was established in 2002.
