Minister Gajraj’s letter authorizing the Foreign Ministry to obtain information from the Canadian Authorities
Georgetown, GINA, Friday, January 30, 2004
Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Ronald Gajraj has written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs authorizing that Ministry to be the required third-party in order to obtain from the Canadian High Commission in Georgetown, all information requested. This is in response to the Canadian authorities’ decision to suspend the visa of Minister Gajraj, and their reluctance to release information to a third-party in the form of a request of reasons for the suspension, made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Following is the Minister’s letter, dated January 28, 2004 to the Minister of Foreign Affairs:
I have gathered from today’s press that the Canadian Authorities have claimed that by virtue of the Legislation governing Privacy, they are constrained not to release any information with respect to any person, unless the express authority of such person to do so is first obtained.
I wish to inform you and, through you, the Canadian Authorities, local or overseas, that I have no objection to any such information being released. This is to corroborate the request already made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guyana to the Canadian Embassy’s Officials for the release of any information they might have in relation to me to the Police.
Kind regards,
Ronald Gajraj
